Laurel Gardens
This house was fitted with prefabricated trussed rafters and was not endowed with a lot of headroom. In order to achieve what the customer expected dormer windows were necessary. Therefore two dormer windows were provided to the rear of the property to achieve the minimum impact on this estate that was entirely two storey.
When converting trussed rafter roofs care must be taken to ensure that the members that remain after the conversion are not overstressed, therefore the floor space will always be limited to the area under the central point struts to the rafter.
The staircase was located in the small bedroom to the rear of the property and the staircase designed so it landed in the center of the roof to ensure the required 2m headroom.
