The existing property is a modern 1980’s detached house located on a very spacious corner plot. The client required additional accommodation on the ground and first floor with an emphasis on a large open plan kitchen.
The property was extended to the whole rear of the property on the ground floor and only part of the first floor. The ground floor part of the extension was entirely dedicated to the kitchen and this involved the complete removal of the existing rear wall. This was replaced with a steel “goal post” portal frame to compensate for the removal of so much masonry.
The result was a large 4 bedroom home with a huge kitchen/dining area.
