Cunnington

Cunnington Road

Due to the size of the original loft the only methods to obtain the necessary headroom for this conversion was to raise the roof or lower the ceiling of the first floor. As the property is a terraced house and located within a conservation area raising the roof was not an option, therefore the ceiling of the first floor was lowered.

The conversion was typically constructed using two new steel beams, which supported the lowered new second floor together with the large rear dormer window. The dormer window is also supported at high level using a ridge beam.

Due to the large dormer window to the rear the staircase was located over the existing staircase and therefore kept the loss of space on the first floor to a minimum.
